Do you pay attention when you eat? No? Well you should!
When was the last time you sat down to enjoy a meal without any distractions?
If you are anything like me, it may be difficult to remember.
However there are very real consequences to not paying attention to the food we are eating, when we eat it.
Theses consequences can range from simple indigestion and over eating, to more serious issues such as immune system deficiencies and disease.
The types of food we consume have a major impact on us, and far too often we simply don’t listen to what our bodies are telling us.
Eating when you aren’t paying attention impairs our bodies ability to regulate our appetite. We often continue to eat food as we are unable to register that we are actually full, since our brain hasn’t caught up to our stomach.
Statistics indicate that heartburn medication is the most used and abused medication in Europe and America. We are consuming too many highly acidic foods, which can lead to inflammation.
We often choose to ignore a natural solution, and try to solve the problem by taking an antacid tablet.
So how do we improve our bodies health and prevent unnecessary inflammation?
- Eat Organic (where possible)
In order to avoid this from occurring it is important to focus on eating food as close to its natural state as possible. Organic foods are always better, however not always affordable or available.
- Reduce your acidic food intake.
Try reducing your intake of acidic foods and eat more alkaline foods. More kale, spinach, avocado and coconut oil, less meat, coffee, alcohol, sugar, white bread and trans fats.
- Get enough sleep
People who sleep poorly or who do not get enough sleep have an increased risk of inflammation. Poor sleep increases your bodies inflammatory response, which compromises your immune system and increases your risk of illness.
- Try not to over eat
Over eating causes an inflammatory response in our body as your body has to work harder to break everything down.
