Shot of a handsome young man working out in the gym

Overdone it during the festive season? You certainly aren’t alone. It’s certainly very easy to let all of the discipline you have built up over the year disappear when there is so much fun to be had. To help get you back on track here are some of our top tips to help you burn more calories without too much effort.

Drink Green tea

Whilst green tea does contain caffeine it is also rich in antioxidants such as polyphenols, these can help your body fight free radicals that left rouge can lead to inflammation. Green tea has been associated with helping reduce the chances of heart disease, as it helps bring down cholesterol and triglyceride levels, a win for your body.
A study by the Clinical Journal of Nutrition September 2006, has suggested drinking tea with your meal may cause it to interfere with the bodies absorption of carbohydrates.
Strength-based exercise
Engaging in strength based exercises as much as possible. This may be the single most effective way to burn fat. Muscle burns more calories than fat as it requires more energy even when your body is at rest. The largest muscles (and therefore the largest calorie burners) are in the thighs, abdomen, chest, and arms. So more Pilates, yes please.

Don’t skip breakfast
You might think that it is better to cut down on calories by missing a meal, but it’s not.
When you skip Breakfast you don’t get your metabolism firing and you may increase your chances of consuming more calories at the end of the day when your body is preparing for rest. This means you store those excess calories that you don’t burn.

Take extra steps
By moving more you increase your body’s daily metabolic requirement. So try to form new habits that encourage you to take the stairs, or to walk around whilst you are on a call, park a little bit further from your home or office and walk. Those extra calories you burn may not seem like a lot initially but trust me they add up over the course of a year.
