At Pilates Wellness Australia we are driven by 9 key attributes that we believe people need in order to be healthy and have an overall sense of wellbeing. We believe that this enables individuals to be successful, not only in business but also in life.
We also believe that these attributes are the keystones to achieving goals. Motivating and inspiring people to engage with these concepts will empower them to be aware of how they can take control of improving their health.
The concept of wellness reaches far beyond physical health. At PWA we believe in a holistic approach to wellbeing. When people commit to engaging in activities, which have the potential to improve the quality of their lives, not solely in the realm of fitness they improve their wellbeing. The act of taking responsibility for one’s life promotes a sense of control over destiny. This act also has greater reaching consequences for individuals, who are then often inspired to make other positive transformations in their lives and health behaviours.
Happiness is an emotion that is experienced on a continuum. Individuals can choose to improve their overall experience of happiness by simply choosing to be happy. We also know that engaging in the physical activities improve levels of happiness in individuals. This comes from the personal satisfaction of bettering your health, as well as from the release of endorphins and neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin.
Fitness to PWA is not about how many kilometres you can run or how much you can bench press. Fitness is a combination of endurance, strength, flexibility and control. At PWA we understand that we are all individuals with different strengths and weaknesses and focusing on improving ourselves rather than competing with others is the key.
“Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness.” Joseph Pilates
Health encompasses our emotional, physical and environmental factors. A focus to improve health through creating an environment within which healthy behaviours are encouraged and valued is essential to sustaining this value.
“To keep the body in good health is a duty… otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.” Buddha
Resilience is about our ability to persevere and overcome challenges. It is about promoting a positive outlook through the improved strength, fitness and stress relief that participation in PWA classes provides to workplaces. The collaborative nature of the classes enables individuals to feel united and supported as members of a team working together.
“Resilience is accepting your new reality, even if it’s less good than the one you had before.”
Movement is about co-oridnation, control of everyday activities. In our daily lives we move inefficiently and often place ourselves at increased risk of musculoskeletal injury through the way we undertake daily tasks such as lifting, carrying and sitting. At PWA our classes improve individuals postural awareness reducing the risk of workplace injuries and providing a safer environment for employees.
PWA believes that prevention is better than a cure, as prevention is always far simpler and more cost effective then a cure. Through being proactive we avoid the time and energy and resources it takes to fix what is broken.
Without innovation life would become boring, we wouldn’t learn better or more effective ways of mastering tasks. Innovation is born through clarity of thought processes which can often be found through wellbeing exercises.
Through encouraging individuals to work together we improve overall health collectively. We learn from each other and strengthen relationships which are a basic human need. PWA classes encourages improved workplace relationships and fosters more positive work environments.
